Happy to be speaking at the TEDx Flanders in Antwerp on 21 Sept http://t.co/a053W6i9Mx— Janez Potočnik (@JanezPotocnikEU) September 2, 2013
"O no, not another EU official with no actual power, nagging about the environment. How boring!” If this is what came to mind when you heard that the EU Commissioner for Environment would be speaking at TEDxFlanders then we invite you to think again!
Janez Potočnik has just receved €3.45bn for the EU's new LIFE+ Regulation. The general objective of LIFE is to contribute to the implementation, updating and development of EU environmental policy and legislation by co-financing pilot or demonstration projects with European added value. We think having responsibility for this kind of money is kind of cool. And having to spend it in the areas of Environmental Technology and Innovation, Green Global Governance and Biodiversity is even cooler!
This job can't be boring! Not if you realise that green, sustainable growth is not just a hype. It's a total paradigm shift in the way we think about our economy, society and our way of living. Janez understands this more than any one else as he is the current European Commissioner for Environment. This means he has to deal with issues like waste, pollution and air and water quality. Or with more complex issues such as biodiversity or the legal ways to protect Europe's environment, all while greenifying the economy.
So what will Janez be speaking about on the TEDxFlanders stage? We've been told to expect a talk around the key message that we need to change the way we live or there will be no resources left to go round. Janez you have our attention!
